Murder Mystery Night..

On the evening of Saturday 21st June Centre Stage had a brilliant murder mystery evening. It was 7:30 at the Cranford Club and members of Centre Stage and the public were ready for an enjoyable night. There was then a performance by members of the committee and old members of the society. It was really entertaining and a good laugh.

The first part of the performance ended with the murder and we were given half an hour to guess who dunnit and have a go at two different questions about detectives and murders. Then the night was finished with the second act to the performance, this was when the murderer was revealed.

In the end many groups had guessed correctly and all the names went into a hat. After the correct answers were read out a very lucky table won a big tin of chocolates. A great way for them to end a great night.

And the winner is..

Centre Stage!

We are delighted to announce that Centre Stage has just been named as the NODA South West Regional award winners in the 'Best Youth Production' category.

Our sensational presentation of Howard Goodall's 'The Dreaming', staged in spring 2008 at The Pavilion Exmouth, beat off all other youth companies to take this prestigious title.

We were also named as the winners of the 'Excellence Award' for East Devon area.

Congratulations to the cast of 'The Dreaming' and to everyone involved with Centre Stage for winning these awards.

A message from the Chairman…

...."As you are probably aware, being Chairman of Centre Stage involves a lot of hard work and takes up a considerable amount of my time. Getting the news this week that we, or rather you, had been selected as winners of two prestigious NODA awards made me feel immensely proud and certainly makes all the hard work worthwhile. On behalf of the management committee, I would like to congratulate each and every one of you involved with 'The Dreaming' and thank you all for your hard work. We must now move forward and make sure that 'That's Centretainment' and 'My Fair Lady' are equally fantastic shows, and we'll show the people of Exmouth what they missed in not supporting 'The Dreaming'...."

Blood Brothers Review..

Society trip to see Blood Brothers

On Saturday 7th June 08 Centre Stage had a brilliant trip to go and see Blood Brothers. It was mainly enjoyed by the younger members of the society but was still thoroughly enjoyed.

We all woke up bright and early to get down to the train station at half 10. We somehow managed to get everybody on the train in time with seconds to spare then started the very exciting journey to the city of Barnstaple.

After arriving in Barnstaple we all went our separate ways to go and get some lunch with many of the girls also having the time to pop into Primark! After a quick look around the city we all met up outside the Queen's Theatre and after some troubles with where everybody was going to sit we all watched the show. The performance was amazing and enjoyed by all. At the end a few were trying to contain the tears and hearts were still racing from the gun shots.

We then all went to Pizza Hut for a meal with some skipping the pizza and just having unlimited ice cream! Service was slow with some people having their starters after their pizza! We then walked very quickly back to the train station for the journey home. Many pictures were taken and we were all worn out by the end of such a great day!

The Dreaming show report...

THE DREAMING Director/Choreographer: SueBonnett
The Exmouth Pavilion: M.D. Jeremy Rawlings.

This was an enchanting show, excellently performed by the members of Centre Stage. "The Dreaming" is based on Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with music by Howard Goodall and lyrics by Charles Hart. The set was very effective, magically lit with a design by Ian Whilden which formed the right background to the earthy colours of the costumes.

This is by no means an easy show to perform, with its Shakespearean dialogue and extremely challenging music, the cast must have worked extremely hard to reach such an exceptional standard of performance. It was very well cast with superb performances by all, including the very animated chorus of woodlanders. The cast was ably led by Duncan Taylor playing the part of Jack. He was lithe and energetic and fitted this part perfectly. Emma Bateman was Sylvia, Queen of the Woodlanders and Perry Meadowcroft was Angel, The King.

They sparked off each other and both sang well, particularly, Emma whose strong singing has a lot of potential. The Villagers, led by Gareth Phare as a confident Rev. Herbert Plum provided some excellent comedy. They threw themselves into the parts, they had good comic timing and gained obvious enjoyment from their performance. Other strong performances came from. Ami Gibson(Jennifer), Charlotte(Grace McNeil) and Hennrietta(Hannah Caygill) all sang extremely well.

They were very ably supported by Sean Mabin(Julian), Alexander(Chalie Leigh) and David (Sean Mulkerinn) all of whom played convincing characters. This was a show I had not seen before and I would like to congratulate Centre Stage for tackling something a different. It is a great pity they did not get the support it deserved, because they put on a tremendous production, I for one appreciated it greatly and went back for a second performance. Well done to all involved.
